Fabric Gift Wrap
Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas - Easy To Do At Home
Using a fabric gift wrap is an easy way to give your Christmas gifts a stylish and striking look.
The idea is to be able to wrap your gift in a conventional way but with an unconventional item.
Fabric can add texture in a way that printed paper never can.
It can make a pretty gift wrap that is fun and quirky, lush and opulent, or simple and elegant.
Just as paper can but with a level of difference that makes it quite special.
You will find a whole host of holiday themed prints for your present wrapping as Christmas draws closer.
Fabrics For Present Wrapping
You can choose from:
- Full prints covered in pictures and images relating to Christmas like snow men, Santa Claus and his reindeers, Christmas trees, etc.
- Plain colors in rich textures and fabrics like linen, jacquards or plush velvet.
- Simple stripes or spots.
- Simple designs of just snowflakes, or just stars, etc.
How To Wrap Your Gift In Fabric
You will need:
Fabric of your choice
Box for your gift
Scissors
Double sided tape and/or hot glue gun
Decoration: wide ribbon, holly sprig, Christmas baubles - your choice.
Step 1.
Place your boxed gift on the fabric and using the straight edge of the box as a guide, trim off the excess fabric. The fabric needs to be able to be cover the box generously in the middle with the top edge folded under by 1in to give a neat edge. The ends need to be long enough to fold in at the sides in a neat triangle with the tip coming up to the top side for securing.
Use double sided tape to secure the fabric in place. It gives a far neater edge than conventional tape. You may need to put small bits of tape in between layers if the cloth is thick and won't hold with just one.
Step 2.
Take a length of ribbon - satin, silk, acrylic - and tie around your present. Cross it at the back and finish on top in a plain knot, or secure with tape, or a hot glue gun.
At this stage you could simply make a bow in the same ribbon and tie it onto the ribbon already in place on the box.
Or, you could add the bow as well as an assortment of little baubles, frosted pine cones, or gilded plastic fruit.
Or, you could wrap the present again in crisp, clear cellophane. Use conventional clear tape this time. The cellophane instantly lifts the look of the gift. You can still add decorations to the top - just use a hot glue gun or double sided tape.
Step 3.
Now all you need is a gift tag or card and you're done!
