Easy Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas

Stuck for gift wrapping ideas?

Maybe you’d just rather hand the gift over in whatever the shop gave it to you in?

STOP!!

Unless the store has done a really professional job of wrapping that present, you really need to put in just that little bit more time to finish off her gift properly.

The idea is pretty simple: Choose some paper, wrap the present, and finish it off with a ribbon and maybe a decoration or two.

Within that simple idea are endless variation of colors, textures, themes…and I think that’s where some people come unstuck.

So let’s keep it really simple.

BEFORE YOU START: If your gift is an odd shape just pop it into a box. In fact, ALWAYS use a box (unless your gift is already in one). Boxes keep your gift looking sharp and expensive.

Most places that sell wrapping paper will also sell gift boxes.

Creative Gift Wrapping Ideas

Here are my two never fail gift wrap ideas:

Cheerful Christmas wrap:– you can either use one of those mass produced rolls of cheerful Christmas paper for this method, or get a bit creative and buy a length of fabric covered in a Christmas theme.

  • Wrap your gift.
  • Take a length of ribbon – satin, silk, acrylic – and tie around your present finishing at the back in a plain knot or secure with tape.
  • Take a length of clear cellophane and wrap the entire gift again.
  • Finish off with the decoration of your choice (see below for ideas) and a gift tag.
  • The cellophane instantly lifts the look of the gift.

Tone on Tone:– Choose a color scheme you think the person you are giving the gift will like. If you aren’t sure, then stick to the colors we associate with Christmas like red, green, white, silver and gold.
  • Buy a roll of plain paper in your chosen color, or at least heavily dominated by that color. It doesn’t have to be Christmassy.
  • Buy a length of wide, satin ribbon in the same color.
  • Choose a decoration in the same color – a large silk flower or bow works well.
  • Wrap the present in the paper.
  • Cross the ribbon over the gift and secure at the back.
  • Secure your decoration to the top and you are done.
  • If your gift is really large, you may like to offset the ribbons and decoration and put them more to one end. Other wise they may look a little lost floating in the middle.

Decoration ideas

To really finish off your gift nicely, fasten a decoration to the top.

Here are some easy gift decoration ideas:

  • Large bow – use the ribbon you wrapped around your gift for an easy and stylish result.
  • Silk flowers – look for large, good quality silk flowers and either use them alone on top of the gift for a striking look, or in a tight bunch tied with ribbon and a bow.
  • Feathers – Plain, very fluffy feathers teamed with a satin bow makes a delightful textural contrast. Or you could look for peacock or pheasant feathers and show off their beautiful patterns and colors.
  • Christmas baubles – tie 3 baubles together and add a bow, or an off-cut of pine wreath, or some tinsel and glue them on.
  • Small polyresin figurines – Look for tiny angels, Santas, Christmas trees, or anything with a Christmas theme and glue them straight on to your gift or tie them on with ribbon.
  • Snowflakes or stars - cut out the shapes you want from white or silver card. You can glue them straight onto your wrapping paper, or punch a hole in a corner and thread them onto the wrapping ribbon, or tie them in a bunch of 3 or 5 with some silver tinsel.
  • Candy canes – tie them up with a bow and stick them on.
  • Colorful buttons – find buttons in your color theme and stick them on with a hot glue gun.
  • Pine cones or pine twigs – choose a 3 small, well formed pine cones and tie together with ribbon or just glue straight on.
